Biography

Ancrum was also the father of William Heyward Ancrum who was killed on December 25, 1863 in a battle with enemy gunboats on the Stono River. He was a member of the Palmetto Guard Artillery and was eighteen years old at the time of his death. He was the grandson of Colonel William Washington of the Revolution.
