Laurel E. Amdor, 76, of 104 Franklin St., Washington, a retired research engineer and decorated veteran of World War II, died at 12:55 p.m. Monday (Sept. 16, 1991) at Proctor Community Hospital, Peoria.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Mason-White Funeral Home, Washington, the Rev. Jeff Browning officiating. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery, Washington.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Amdor was born July 30, 1915, in Milan, Indiana, a son of Elmer and Nellie Dewey Amdor. He married Vera Raney Dec. 31, 1947, in Peoria. She survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Bonnie Antal, Washington; three sons, Michael, Champaign; Lowell, Springfield; and Leslie, Chenoa; five grandchildren; and two brothers, Merle, 806 N. Richland Ave., Normal, and John, LeRoy. Mr. Amdor, who graduated from Illinois State Normal University in 1939, was research engineer for Caterpillar Tractor Co., retiring in July 1976. After his retirement, he taught technical writing at Illinois Central College.
An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Amdor served in the European Theater with the 10th Mountain Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
Mr. Amdor was a member and former deacon of Washington Christian Church.
He was a volunteer for the Salvation Army and a member of the Men's Retirees Golf League at Hillcrest Golf Center, Washington.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or Washington Rescue Squad.
