Biography

Giovanna Amari, called Anna, is born around 1751-60 in Corleone, the daughter of Maestro Salvatore Amari and Serafina Milone.

Giovanna marries Leoluca Napoli on 29 July 1777. Her parents are living at this time.

Giovanna and Leoluca have at least nine children: Luciano (1778), Anna Maria (1779), Pietro (1781), Grazia (1783), two sons named Francesco Paolo (1786 and 1795), Giuseppa (1789), Biagia (1792), and Salvatore (1799).

Luciano is born and baptized 19 April 1778. His godparents are his paternal uncle Emmanuele Napoli and his maternal aunt Luigia Amari, who is unmarried.[1]

Anna Maria is born 13 September 1779 and baptized the next day. This record calls her mother "Anna." Her godparents are Antonio Streva and her paternal aunt Anna Napoli, both unmarried.[2]

Luciano's godparents---Giovanna's sister, Luigia and Leoluca's brother, Emmanuele---marry in 1780.

Pietro is born and baptized 18 November 1781. His godparents are Don Salvatore and Donna Maria Valenti, a married couple.[3]

Grazia Leoluchina is born 14 March 1783 and baptized the next day. Her godparents are Don Pietro Badulato and Donna Grazia, his sister, both unmarried.[4]

The first son named Francesco Paolo is born 16 September 1786 and baptized the next day. His godparents are Don Francesco Paternostro and Gioachina Ravanella, who is unmarried.[5]

Giuseppa is born and baptized 12 July 1789. Her godparents are Don Giuseppe Trumbatore and Donna Domenica Catinella, wife of Don Mariano.[6]

Francesco Paolo dies 25 November 1790.[7] He is four years old.

Maria Biagia is born and baptized 17 March 1792. Her godparents are his maternal uncle Gioachino Amari, who is unmarried, and maternal aunt Luigia Napoli, wife of Emmanuele.

The second son named Francesco Paolo is born 20 June 1795 and baptized the next day. His godparents are Don Antonino and Maria Rosa Gristina, brother and sister, who are both unmarried.

Salvatore is born 29 January 1799 and baptized the next day, named after his maternal grandfather. His godparents are Maestro Giovanni and Giovanna Governali, a married couple.

Grazia marries Maestro Fiderico Paparcuri, from Palermo, on 15 January 1809. Leoluca has died by this time. This record calls Giovanna "Anna".

Just four days after Grazia's marriage, Giovanna's father, Maestro Salvatore, dies at age 78 (b. 1732) on 19 January 1809. Her mother, Serafina, survives him.

Giuseppa marries Maestro Michaele L'Ala on 20 November 1809. Giovanna is still living.

Maestro Francesco marries Giovanna Patella on 4 May 1816.[8]

Maestro Salvatore marries Francesca Inserra on 9 January 1831. Giovanna is still living at this time.

In 1834, Giovanna, a widow, 83 (b. 1751), lives with her son, Maestro Salvatore, reportedly 31 (he is 35), his wife Francesca, 24 (b. 1810), and their children Giovanna, 3 (b. 1831), and Rosaria, 1 (b. 1833), on the strada di Santa Caterina. Their neighbors include the families of Pietro Castro, who live just before a courtyard to the west, and Andrea Maniscalco, who live to the east of the Napoli family on the strada.

Maestro Francesco dies at age 40 on 25 October 1835, the widow of Giovanna.

Giuseppa dies, a widow, at age 48 on 24 July 1837. Donna Biagia, the widow of Don Carmelo Marullo, dies at age 36 (b. 1801) on 2 August. The sisters die during the first recorded cholera outbreak in western Europe, a plague that sweeps Sicily and sparks a revolt against the Bourbons.

Giovanna dies, reportedly at age 80 (but possibly ninety, based on her age in 1834) on 1 February 1841, the widow of Leoluca.

Grazia dies, a widow, at age 66 on 19 December 1849.
