Eino J. Alto, 82, of Cherry died Friday, June 4, 1999, in Heritage Manor Health Center, Chisholm.
He was born July 14, 1916, in Chisholm to Frank John and Hilda Amanda (Santala) Alto. He grew up and attended school in Cherry. Following his schooling, he was employed at Bispala Brothers Sheet Metal, Hibbing. On March 28, 1942, he was united in marriage to Evelyn E. Puukila in Chisholm. Following marriage the couple made their home in Cherry. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a prisoner of war under Germany during World War II. Following his discharge, he was employed as a sheet metal journeyman for Bispala Brothers, Sears, B & G Sheet Metal and Range Cornice and Roofing. He retired in 1976.
He was a member of Cherry Volunteer Fire Department and Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 505.
He was preceded in death by a son, Alvin; a brother, Allan R. Alto; and his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Evelyn; a daughter, Aileen (Doug) Aho; grandchildren Warren Aho, Deanna (Brian) Leppala and Keri (Tony) Kaml; and great-grandchildren Amanda and Cody Leppala.
Burial was in Cherry Cemetery.
