Edward moved to Suffield (now a town in Connecticut on the Connecticut River) 1678 with his father's family.[5] 15 November 1683 Edward married Mercy (Painter) Allen (1664-1740) at Suffield.[6][7] He received a small land grant in Deerfield[8] and moved there with Mercy. They moved to a larger grant in the part of Deerfield that is now called Greenfield after 1686[9] Edward served on many Deerfield town committees and was most notably Town Clerk from 1704-1712[5] Edward died at Deerfield 10 February 1740.[10][11]
Raid on Deerfield
11 May 1704 During Queen Anne's War, there was a raid on Deerfield where many residents were captured or killed. Edward Allen, as town clerk was responsible for chronicling the names of the dead and captured including the death of his brother John Allen (1659-abt.1704)[12] Edward was also asked to journey to Quebec 1707 to negotiate a ransom for the captives from Deerfield, but this was during the height of the war and few captives were brought back.[13]

I have rewritten this profile using town records and "The History of Deerfield" by George Sheldon. Edward Allen is a well documented person who documented the raid on Deerfield Mass as Town Clerk, so his life and career can be outlined here in some detail.
Clicking links and checking what was written, it appears most of what was here is gedcom stuff and there were few if any sources so most of what was here has been deleted. I will retain a list of his children but deleted the list of his siblings.
I changed Edward's death date to that given by Bill Lacey in his comment below. The death date of Nov 1696 corresponds to that of Edward's father, also named Edward Allen.
Alternative death date reported as: Date: 10 Feb 1739/1740 Imported only 10 Feb 1739 from Death Date and marked as uncertain. Unsourced, however, four of his reported children with Mercy Painter are born after the 26 Nov 1696 date listed above!
