A pension was located for his widow and minors dated 20 April 1863. He appears as deceased and as having served as Sergeant in the 72nd Ohio Infantry in Company F.

Elizabeth (Betsey) Mallory
(abt 1799-abt 1863).

When the Civil War broke out in 1861 he enlisted in the 72nd Regiment of Ohio Volunteer Infantry and was made First Sergeant for bravery. He was in a number of battles and skirmishes and was killed at the Battle of Shiloh

Sarah Ann Burton
(abt 1829-abt 1924) around 07 Oct 1849. They first resided at Rockdale, Crawford , Pennsylvania, United States and in 1853 moved to Ridgeville, Lorain, Ohio, United States. The marriage ended with his death in 1862.

She died over 60 years later at the age of 95 on 07 Feb 1924 at Union City, Erie, Pennsylvania, United States.

Marshall and Sarah had five children:
Albert Marshall Alford (1850-1941). Albert Marshall Alford was born in 1850 in Crawford, Pennsylvania, United States. He died at 91 years of age, in 1941, in Ballville, Sandusky, Ohio, United States. He was married to Kate Rutter. At his death he was widowed. His occupation is given as Buggy Maker and Salesman. [7]
Sylvania Alford (Osborn) (1852-1940). Sylvania Alford was born at Rockdale, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, United States in 1852. She married John Osborn who was by occupation a printer, publisher and editor of a paper he owned at Daytona, Florida. [1] She died in 1940 at the age of 88 and is buried in Pinewood Cemetery, Daytona Beach, Volusia, Florida, United States. [8]
Eugene M Alford (1854-1865). Eugene M Alford was born at Ridgeville, Ohio, United States in 1854 and died at the age of 11 in 1865 in Leavittsville, Monroe Township, Carroll, Ohio, United States. [1]
Ida Alford (Peck) (1858-1944). Ida Alford was born either at Ridgeville, Clearcreek Township, Warren County, Ohio, United States in 1857 [1] or at Bridgeville, Muskingum, Ohio, United States in 1858. [9] She married Frank T Peck, who was a dry goods merchant. They resided at Daytona, Volusia, Florida, United States. [1] He died between the 1920 and 1930 censuses and [10] she remarried in 1931 to Julius M Bamond in Florida, United States. [11] She died in 1944 in Volusia, Florida, United States. [9] According to one source, her name was Ida M [12] but evidence has not been found of that. The Ida M's located were not her.
Mary Alford (Brown) (1860- >1900). Mary Alford was born in Rice Township, Sandusky County, Ohio, United States. She married W. F. Brown who was a merchant grocer. They resided at Union City, Erie, PennsyIvania, United States. [1] Note: According to "Known Descendents", [12] she was born in 1860 which is further corroborated in the 1900 census, which gives the date as Sept 1860. Her death has been estimated @ after June 1900 (last census). [13]
