Halbert Leo "Top Gun" Alexander served as a US military pilot during World War II. He was one of the “Documented Original Tuskegee Airmen.” The Tuskegee Airmen were known for heroic combat service in support of Allied Forces in the European Theater. They served with the 332d Expeditionary Operations Group and the 477th Bombardment Group, both largely Black units of the United States Army Air Forces.
Halbert Leo Alexander was born in 1922 to Halbert Jehue Alexander and Mattie B. Kaiser. [1]
Halbert graduated in Tuskegee class 44-I-SE on November 20,1944 as a 2nd Lt.[2]
He married Alice Hazel Epps.[3]

He was assigned to the 99th Fighter Squadron after the 332nd Fighter Group was disbanded. He was killed in an F-86 Aircraft accident, while flying over Chelmsford, Massachusetts on March 25, 1953. He is buried in Georgetown Cemetery, Georgetown, Illinois.[4]
