William Alexander was born in Watten in 1841 and was baptised at the parish kirk on 12 April 1841.
In 1841 William is recorded on the census as living in "Crumyquoy" (Cromyquoy) in the parish of Watten, Caithness, with his parents and siblings John and William. Also recorded on the census form as living with the family were two farm servants, Catherine Bain and Janet Manson.[1]
In 1851 William was going to school and living with his parents and siblings on the family farm in Watten, at a location known as Cromiequoy.
