Donald Alexander, son of Donald Alexander and Euphemia Thomson, was born about 1813 in Mireland, in the parish of Wick, Caithness, and was baptised in Wick on 23 October 1813.[1]
In 1841 Donald was living on the family farm in Quoybrae, in the parish of Watten, Caithness, with his mother and brothers Alexander and George. Three servants, Betty Murray, Alexander Mowat and Helen Bonnell, were also recorded on the census return.[2]
Donald was a farmer of 80 acres in Quoybrae, in the parish of Watten, in 1861. Also staying at the Alexander farm on the night of the 1861 census were Henry McAdie, Donald Campbell, William Cormack and Catherine Bremner. Donald's brother Alex and his wife's sister Christian were also staying on the farm that day.
