Lucy T. Aldrich was born October 23, 1869 at Providence, Providence, Rhode Island; the daughter of Nelson Aldrich and Abby Chapman. Having arteriosclerotic heart disease, she died (unmarried) on January 12, 1955 at Providence and was buried at Swan Point Cemetery on Blackstone Boulevard, Providence.[1]
The 1880 census indicates she was 10 years of age and living with her parents and siblings at Providence, Providence, Rhode Island, United States. She was attending school at the time the census was taken. Both she and her father were born in Rhode Island; while her mother was born in Connecticut. Lucy was the oldest child, and the census shows four siblings:[2]
Edward B. age 8 in 1880 born in Rhode Island
Abby G. age 5 in 1880 born in Rhode Island
Stuart M. age 4 in 1880 born in Rhode Island
son age 0 in 1880 born in the District of Columbia, United States (Washington D.C.) In the 1900 census his name is given as William S. Aldrich but indicates birth in Rhode Island.
In the 1900 census Lucy's middle initial was probably misunderstood by the census taker, since her middle initial was indicated by a "P" instead of a "T." Her birth date is given as May 1870. She is in Ward 1 of Providence; age 30, single, living with her parents and siblings. She has three additional siblings by this time:[3]
Annie Caffery a female age 22 from Nova Scotia, Canada
Betsey Redemen a female age 25 from Ireland
Martilda Chambell a female age 20 from France.
At age 40 in the 1910 census Lucy is unmarried, living at Warwick, Kent, Rhode Island with her parents and siblings Richard age 28, Winthrop age 24, and Elsie age 21. Although there were probably servants in the household, they are not listed on the 1910 census.[4]
