Dave Silver medalist in high jump in 1936 Olympics

David Donald Albritton was an American athlete, teacher, coach, and state legislator. He was one of the first high jumpers to use the straddle technique.[1]

David Donald Albritton was born in Danville, Alabama. He was the son of Peter Albritton and Josephine Hutchinson.[2]

He married Margaret Ann Holiday on 23 November 1937 in Highland County, Ohio.[3][4]

Dave won the silver medal in high jump at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. He began working as a civilian defense worker at Dayton's Wright Field in 1941, later working as a teacher and track coach at Dunbar high school. In 1960, he was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives, representing the then-85th district. In 1967 his district became the 34th district. He also owned the David D. Albritton Insurance Agency for decades.[5]

He died on 14 May 1994 in Dayton, Ohio.[6][7] He was buried at Woodland Cemetery.[8]
