Biography

This profile is part of the St Helens, Lancashire One Place Study.

James Ainsworth was born in about 1818 in Eccleston, Lancashire. He was the son of William Ainsworth, a watchmaker. His mother was probably Margaret (Tarbuck) Ainsworth.

By June 6th 1841, James was in the household of John Ainsworth, who was probably his brother. John was a watch maker, James was a journeyman watch maker.

James married Ellen Foster on 29 Dec 1844 at St Peter's Church in Liverpool, Lancashire. Both were of full age (21 or more), and neither had been married before. James was a watchmaker and lived in Park Lane; Ellen lived in Suffolk Street. Their fathers were named as William Ainsworth (watchmaker) and Henry Foster (watchmaker). The witnesses were William and Margaret Fazakerley.
