Samuel Adler was born on August 16, 1814 in Alsace-Lorraine, German Empire around 1826. He immigrated to the United States and settled in Van Buren, Crawford County, Arkansas. In 1860, he lived in the town and worked a a merchant and manager at a cotton plantation. When the Civil War started he moved is family to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He died there on April 28, 1886.
