Biography

Nathan was born in January, 1860 in Lithuania, then part of the Russian Empire.[1] His parents were Kalman Adelson and Ite (Vriskan) Adelson(see Notes).

Nathan immigrated to the United States, probably about 1877 (see Notes).[1]

Nathan married Nancy Hirschfeld, a British immigrant, August 26, 1883 in Manhattan, New York, New York, United States[2] and they had at least 5 children (see Notes).

In 1900 Nathan and Nancy (identified as Nettie) lived in Manhattan, New York, New York, United States with their five children.[1] The family remained there in 1905. A boarder named Frida Hirshfield (most likely a relative of Nancy) lived with them.[3] In 1910 Frida no longer lived with Nathan, Nancy, and their five children.[4] In 1915 the family was still all together, but now living in the Bronx, Bronx, New York, United States.[5] In 1920 Nathan and Nancy were still in the Bronx and only Charles was still in their home.[6] In 1925 Nathan and Nancy lived in the home of their daughter, Ida (Adelson) Jacobson, her husband, Abraham Jacobson, and their five year old daughter, Ruth.[7]

Nathan was a widowed retired tailor, living at 1352 Morrison Ave. in the Bronx, Bronx, New York, United States, when he died there June 15, 1934.[8] He was buried June 17, 1934 in the Montefiore Cemetery in Springfield Gardens, Queens, New York, United States.[9]

Notes

Parents
Nathan's marriage record lists his father correctly, but shows his mother as Dinah David.[2] His death record also incorrectly shows his mother's name as Dinah Zuckerman. This record also incorrectly shows his father's name as Charles Adelson.[8]

Children
Nathan's children were:

  • Charles Adelson, born about 1887
  • Lottie Adelson, born about 1890
  • Sydney Adelson, born about 1892
  • Ida Adelson, born about 1895
  • Arthur Adelson, born about 1899
