Haijo was born around 1700, possibly in Wildervank, The Netherlands, the son of Addeke Jans and Geesjen Geerts, estimated based upon the baptism of his brother, Berent Addekes and the general patronymic naming patterns of the era. It appears he was named for the deceased first husband of his mother Hajo Berents.
