In the late 1870's the family moved to Kansas. On 09 Jun 1880 P.S. and Mary A. Adams were living in Newton, Harvey County, Kansas with two daughters: 5 year old schoolgirl Cora E., and 1 year old Elsie.[1]
The Kansas state census of 01 Mar 1885 records Cora Etta Adams, 10, as the eldest of four children living with her parents P.S. Adams and Mary A.F. Adams in Eureka township, Kingman County, Kansas.[2]
Cora (Adams) Steffan was a settler in Washington before statehood.
Around 1886 Pearl moved the family from Kansas to Washington Territory, before its statehood in 1889. The 1887 census of Spokane County[3]
records the family with 12 year old Cora in the city of Spokane Falls (which became Spokane in 1891).
