Biography

Elizabeth ADAMS was born about 1821 or 1822 in Kentucky, probably Floyd County, Kentucky^[1] and probably died between 1870 and December 1872 in Pike County, Kentucky.^[2] She was the daughter of William ADAMS and Christina CRACE. She is buried in Wright Cemetery, Beefhide, Letcher County, Kentucky.

DEATH ESTIMATE:

Samuel W. WRIGHT had a child born July 1873 in Pike County to a Margaret E. ADDINGTON. It is for this reason that we believe that Elizabeth ADAMS died between 1870 and December 1872 and that Samuel W. WRIGHT remarried Margaret E. ADDINGTON prior to December 1872.

Tombstone picture on the Find a Grave memorial appears to be of a tombstone that would have been placed a lot closer to present day than 1872. Tombstone only shows years of birth and death. Without knowing the source of the information that was used to make the tombstone, this fact about the age of the stone makes the information on the stone suspect. Further research should be completed to try to determine the validity of the information reported on the stone.

Samuel W. WRIGHT was born about 22 June 1822 in Lebanon, Russell County, Virginia and died about 1 October 1906 in Letcher County, Kentucky. He was the son of Joel Martin WRIGHT and Susannah (maiden name unknown). He is buried in Wright Cemetery, Beefhide, Letcher County, Kentucky.

Unable to find record of Marriage between Elizabeth ADAMS and Samuel WRIGHT in Letcher County, Kentucky on FamilySearch. [Search on 16 October 2017, Search was performed in the index of marriages for that county for the both the indexes for the bride's name and the groom's name. Registers for that county only go back to 1842. [Bride's age estimate in 1842 would have been about 21 years old]

THEORY: Either Elizabeth ADAMS and Samuel WRIGHT married in another county or before 1842. Oldest known child was born about 1843.

Tree at Ancestry stated she died 13 August 1872 in Letcher County, Kentucky. It also stated that Samuel WRIGHT may have married 15 August 1872 in Letcher County, Kentucky to Margaret S. ADDINGTON so the tree might have meant before that date.

Unable to find this second marriage to Margaret S. ADDINGTON in Letcher County, Kentucky marriage records in the Index. Need to check other nearby counties for possible marriage record.
