John Adam was born in Scotland.

John Adam was born in Kilsyth, Stirlingshire in 1725 the son of John Adam and Isobel Adam. He was baptised in Kilsyth on 5 September 1725. ^[1]

When he was 24 he was married to Isabell Thomson in Kilsyth on 14 January 1749.^[2]

The couple had six children in Kilsyth however only four survived past infancy:
