Wiley was born in 1827 In Taliaferro County, Georgia. He was a son of Wiley Acree and Elizabeth Morris. He was living in Columbia County, Georgia in 1860.

There was a story about Wiley Wood Acree. He had gotten his leg shot off in the war and never cut his hair or shaved after that. From his obituary of October 4th 1911: WW Acree, an old and well respected citizen of Searcy County died in the home of his daughter Mrs. Dan Peek near Gilbert on Wednesday night October 4th 1911 at 10 o'clock. Mr. ACREE was born in Taliferro County Georgia on September 22nd 1827 near Crawfordville. At the age of 32 he was married to Mary E Blanchard. To this Union were born eight children. Five sons and three daughters.
Mr. Acree was a devoted Christian, having professed and joined the Baptist Church in his early manhood. He was very firm in his belief, and strict in rearing his children. In 1861, he enlisted in the Confederate Army and served four years, being wounded just before the close of the war. In 1880 he moved to Arkansas and located in Pulaski County near Little Rock. In the fall of 1887 he moved to Searcy County and in the fall of 1888 he located on Bear Creek where he resided up to the time of his death. His wife preceded him in the great beyond a little over a year before. His remains were interred in the Silver Hill graveyard in the presence of a large concourse of relatives and friends. He was a carpenter and farmer by trade. He was born September 22nd 1827 to Wiley Acree (born 1781 in North Carolina, died 1865) and Anna Morris. Wiley senior was the son of John Acree and Elizabeth, last name unknown.
Wiley Wood Acree enlisted in 1862 as a Private in Augusta, Georgia, in Company C of the 20th Georgia Battalion of Cavalry.[1]
The 8th Cavalry Regiment was organized in July, 1864, by consolidating seven companies of the 62nd Regiment and three of the 20th Battalion Georgia Partisan Rangers.[1] It served in J. Dearing's Brigade in the Army of Northern Virginia and was active in the Petersburg siege north and south of the James River and around Appomattox. The unit cut through the Federal lines at Appomattox Court House and disbanded April 11, 1865. Company G was attached to the Department of North Carolina and Southern Virginia, saw action in the Battle of Bentonville, and surrendered with the Army of Tennessee. Its commanders were Colonel Joel R. Griffin, Lieutenant Colonel John W. Millen, and Major William G. Thomson.
Wiley was promoted to Corporal and later to Sgt. He was in hospital at Wayside with Dysentery. He was admitted and later released back to duty. He was in hospital at Petersburg, Virginia admitted in Oct of 1864. He was wounded and suffered amputation of the left leg. He was furloughed in January of 1865.
