Thomas was the son of Thomas Dyke-Acland and Elizabeth Dyke. He was baptised on 18th Apr 1752 at Selworthy, Somerset, England. His father had adopted the name Dyke-Acland when he married Elizabeth and took possession of her family estates.
He was educated at Eton College and University College, Oxford.
In 1785, on the death of his young nephew, John Dyke Acland he succeeded as 9th Baronet Acland of Columb John (est. 1644 in the Baronetage of England). There was also a 1678 creation with the same title, of which he was the 5th Baronet.
He married Henrietta Anne Hoare, daughter of Sir Richard Hoare, 1st Bt. and Frances Anne Acland, on 4 July 1785 at Barnes, Surrey, England. Their children included:
He was an enthusiastic staghunter and was Master of the North Devon Staghounds. He mainly lived at Holnicote, Devon, near the Exmoor hunting grounds.
He died on 17 May 1794 at age 42 on a journey to London. He was buried on 29 May 1794 at Broadclyst, Devon, England. His will was proven (by probate) on 26 June 1794.
His widow in 1795 remarried to Captain the Hon. Matthew Fortescue (1754–1842), Royal Navy, younger brother of Hugh Fortescue, 1st Earl Fortescue of Castle Hill, Filleigh, Devon, and had a further child.
