William was born in 1888. He was the son of William Acland and Emily Smith.[1] He was educated at Eton College and Christ Church College, Oxford.
He served with the Royal Artillery and Royal Flying Corps and fought in World War I. He was awarded with the Military Cross, the Air Force Cross and the Territorial Decoration. He later served as Deputy Lieutenant, Justice of the Peace, High Sheriff (1851) and County Alderman for Hertfordshire.
He married Margaret Emily Barclay (d.1967), daughter of Charles Theodore Barclay and Josephine Lister Harrison, on 26 April 1916, and had four daughters:
In 1924, on the passing of his father, he succeeded as 3rd Baronet Acland of St. Mary Magdalene (est. 1890 in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom). The title granted the equivalent status of a knighthood.
He passed away in 1970. He was succeeded in the baronetcy by his brother Hubert.
