Thielmann (Theil) Ackermann was born at Hoof or Elgershausen about 1625 son of Hans Ackermann, der Buchmüller. He married Catherina at nearby Elgershausen in 1648 and lived there a while, but about 1660 the family moved to nearby Altentritte. Several children were baptized at Altentritte, but eventually the family returned to Hoof. Thiel was a miller as well as a Bergsteiger (mine inspector) at the coal mining works in Habichtwald, about five kilometers north of Hoof and died at Hoof in 1710, "age 94 years and 6 months." This age is definitely exaggerated by about ten years, but to survive the Thirty Years War, the epidemics and famines that ensued, and live a long, active life in the disastrous 17th century was a very rare occurrence, indeed!
There is no birth or baptismal record for Thielmann because there a gap in baptisms in the church register for the years 1605 to 1626. Proof that he was the son of Hans der Buchmüller can be found in a number of baptismal sponsorships:

2-Altenritte Parish Register, 1638-1773, p. 17. [1661] "22 8ber Tiele Ackermann des Müller, [Tochter], Göddeling, Gtr. ist sein Schwester Gela, virgo, zu Elgershausen des Buchmüllers Tochter.
3-Elgershausen Parish Register, 1647-1700, p. 17. [1662] Heinrich Rudolph, des Buchmüller Eydem, ein Sohnlein gtff der 7 Septemb. Gewatter Tilo Ackerman seine Frauen halbbrüder. Die Kind- Tilo.
