KATIE A. SCHROEDER, NURSE AT VETERANS HOSPITALS

Katie A. Schroeder was a nurse at Camp Hospital 52 in Le Mans, France, during World War I. She later worked at the Brecksville Veterans Hospital for about 20 years and at a veterans hospital in Hines, Ill.

Mrs. Schroeder, 95, died Wednesday at the Good Samaritan nursing home in Evansville, Ind.

She was born in St. Louis and reared in Shreveport, La. She graduated from nursing school at Schumpert Hospital. She met her first husband, Frank Schwope, during the war. He died in a train accident after seven years of marriage.

In 1952, she married Richard Schroeder^[1], whose father had helped build St. Peters United Church of Christ in Amherst, O.

She was a dedicated member of veterans organizations. She belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

Mrs. Schroeder moved to Evansville three years ago to be near her daughter, June Bradfield. She is also survived by two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two sisters. Services will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Alexander East funeral home in Evansville.^[2]

Katie and her first husband, Frank, had one child, June Schwope, who was born in Ohio in about 1923.^[3]
