Mary Ann Abernethy was born in Ireland.

Mary Ann was born in 1871 at Aughrimderg, Clonoe, County Tyrone. She was the daughter of John Abernethy and Jane Craig. ^[1]

She married Nevin Isaiah H Abernethy (1860-1928); possibly in the United States. But as of 1895, they lived at Aughrimderg for the birth of daughter Sarah Jane.

By 1910 they were living at Bryn Mawr, Lower Merion, Pennslyvania as of 1910.

She passed away 4 February 1949 at Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, and is buried at Lower Merion Baptist Church. ^{[2] [3]}

Parents

The death certificate names parents as "John Abernethy" and "Mary Ann Abernethy", which would not be correct.

Evidence for Mary Ann being the daughter of these parents, and being the person on the unnamed birth registration 28 Dec 1871 at Aughrimderg:

• On the 1932 passenger log in sources, she gives her birthplace as Aughrimderg.
• The DOB on death cert is 25 Dec 1872, quite close to 28 Dec 1871 on the birth registration. It was very common for Irish emigrants' stated DOBs to be off by a few days and a few years from their civil registration DOB.
• She gives a daughter the middle name Craig.
• Daughter Sarah Jane appears on the 1911 census as granddaughter of the linked father.

Emigration

The 1892 passenger list in sources aboard the Lord Gough age 20 bound for Bryn Mawr. If this is correct, she would have returned home for the birth of Sarah Jane.
