William Abell was born in Derbyshire, England.
William Abell was a millwright and engineer, owner of an Iron Foundry at 53 Brook Street, Derby employing over 100 men with noted works still preserved in Derby.[1]
  • A silk-throwing machinery, for the conversion of raw silk into threads, made at Derby, by Mr. William Abell was among exhibits presented by manufacturer Joseph L. Davenport at the 1851 Great Exhibition[2]
  • Cast Iron posts outside St. Werburgh’s Church[3]
  • A small 7 hp horizontal steam engine by the Derby engineers, William Abell provided for the Derby Malt Vinegar Co. was removed to the Derby Industrial Museum in 1986
