Biography

PHEBE ABBOTT, b. at Andover, 18 Nov 1768 daughter of John Abbot and Abigail Abbott;^[1] d. at Portland, ME, 30 Apr 1852;^[2] m. at Andover, 9 Apr 1789,^[3] EDWARD CARLETON, b. at Bradford, 2 Jul 1762 son of Dudley and Abigail (Wilson) Carleton; Edward d. at Portland, 12 Jun 1825.

Edward Carleton and Phebe Abbott were in Blue Hill, Maine during their early marriage. Edward was the surveyor of lumber in Blue Hill in 1789 and served on a committee to keep the fish course near Carleton Mills clear.^[4] They were then in Portland where Edward associated with founders of a Baptist church, and he was chosen one of the first two deacons in 1802.^[5]

Children

Phebe Abbott and Edward Carleton were parents of ten children, and it is likely their older children were born at Blue Hill and the younger children at Portland.^[6]
