Biography

Andreas Anton Aanonson was born on January 11, 1872 in Aaraas, Norway. He arrived at the port of New York, New York at the age of 18 aboard the S.S. Island on May 8, 1890 having departed from Christiansend, Norway. Once in the US he used the last name of Anderson and usually one of the following first names Antonio, Anton or Anthony.

In May 1899 at the age of 27 he enlisted in the military in Massachusetts although he resided in New Jersey at the time. He served as a Private in Company B of the 46th US Volunteer Infantry in the Spanish American War from September 18, 1899 to May 31, 1901, receiving an honorable discharge.

After the war he lived for a period of time in Hartford, Connecticut where a cousin lived. Then records show he was a patient at various times between 1916 and 1927 at the National Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Maine, Ohio, California, Wisconsin, and Kansas. He settled in Los Angeles, California in October 1933 and lived there until his death in 1953.

He married Margaret Ann Eckler in Los Angeles on April 1, 1934 where they lived together until her death in 1939. He visited and kept in touch with Margaret's family in Kentucky even after her death, considering them his family as well.

Antonio applied for and was granted US citizenship in 1936. According to his naturalization papers he had no children and was missing the second finger of his right hand.

Antonio was buried in the Los Angeles National Cemetery in California.

If you want to add a another category telling where someone are from, it should be a smaller location than the country.
