Biography
Fritz Aal died as a result of persecution during the Holocaust.
Fritz was born in 1913, probably in Nurenberg, Germany.
He moved from there to Amsterdam in about 1932.[1]
He was imprisoned at Westerbork Transit Camp; from there he was transported to Theresienstadt Ghetto (05/04/1944 Transport XXIV/5 )[2]
From there, he was transported to Auschwitz Birkenau. ("Transport Ek" on 28/09/1944).
He must have been selected there to go to the work camp "Tschechowitz (II)" at Czechowice.[3]
He died in January 1945 at Tschechowitz (II) work/concentration camp.
Research Notes
the death date given in the book In Memoriam - Nederlandse oorlogsslachtoffers is 23 Jan 1944; this makes sense, though it could have been 21st or 22nd. The 21st was the day the commanders killed all remaining people in the work camp Tschechowitz (II)
- this was the Czechowice refinery (German: Tschechowitz-Vacuum).[4]
