Surgeon Arthur Martin A'Beckett FRCS was born in 1812 at England. He was a son of solicitor, William A'Beckett, and Sarah Abbott.[1]
He attended London University and qualified as a medical practitioner. From 1835 to 1837 he was staff surgeon to the British Legion in Spain, where he received several Spanish decorations.[1]
On the 15th of May, 1838 at Marylebone, Middlesex, he married Emma Louise Elwin[2][3] and the couple promptly migrated to the Colony of New South Wales (Australia), whereupon he practised as a successful surgeon. From 1856 to 1860 he was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council.[1]
Emma and Arthur had ten children.[1]
Arthur passed away, about 59 years of age, on 23rd May 1871 at Ashfield, New South Wales.[4]
