I may be in the dark regarding understanding working order of new privacy policies but ...

I find it outrageous (and a severe bug) when the relationship finder tool displays living profiles as Private for the manager of those profiles.

If we want to enforce a new privacy policy properly we should either redefine a manager's privileges or uniformly redefine working order of all tools such as dynamic tree, etc.

In short I ask not to disrupt working order of any tool for the domain profiles of a manager regardless of privacy policy issues.

The Privacy Policy on WikiTree has been updated in May to conform to new international regulations and protect WikiTree from potential lawsuits that could happen if these regulations were not followed. Please review the new Privacy Policy and the the GDPR FAQ, these should answer your questions below.

These changes have been considered unfortunate by a large part of the WikiTree community, but they were necessary. Thanks for understanding !

Many of my profiles privacy levels have turned to "unlisted". When I try to change them I get "A living non-member can only be Unlisted".

1- I am the manager of all these profiles and I can not even view them in the relationship finder ?

2- Why certain other profiles that are living have not changed to this status ?

How can I get back to working order with about 2300 profiles already entered ?

I'm glad to hear you're starting up a project for your ancestors!

The first steps are to read through this page: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Starting_a_Project

We don't currently have a top-level project to cover this region. So, go ahead and start it as a free-space project (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Free-Space_Projects), and we may be able to set something up as a top-level and categorize your project under that. I'll need to poll our Leaders and see if anyone is available to be your "sponsor."

Keep me posted on how things are going!

One more thing ... we have a Category for Iran with only a few profiles. I've added that category to: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/None-405

However, in looking at the articles for Iran on Wikipedia, we should set up subcategories so that you can put your family's profiles in the correct geographical locations.

I was just look at this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persian_name#Surnames

Using this information, could you determine information that could be entered as a "surname" in the Last Name at Birth Field?

It looks like people were distinguished by a suffix of some type or the city or town they lived in. Could one of those be used?

To set Privacy Levels to Open, click on the Privacy tab and select the button next to the white padlock. Also, if you have the birth date set before 150 years and make an edit to a profile, it will automatically change for you.

In regards to the Last Name at Birth field. I just took another look at the Name Fields guidelines, and under the Special Rules for Required Fields section, it says that we need to create a name for the Last Name Field.

This seems like a good topic to take to the G2G forum and let the community help sort it out. We had to do something similar w/ Native Americans.

Khosrow, would you check out our languages template and add it to your biography? For example you might add

{{ Languages | fa | en-3 | fr-1 }}

to the top of your biography if you speak Farsi natively, advanced English and basic French, or you could use de-4 to specify near-native German or ru-2 for intermediate Russian, and so forth up to ten languages.

It really helps to know who speaks all the different languages used on WikiTree! I'll add the templates for Arabic in case you have any proficiency with that language.

I notice you have been very busy here on wikitree with a considerable amount of profile creations. Some of these profiles need some source's. Remember without source's we cannot objectively resolve conflicting information. If you need help finding source's feel free to ask in the G2G forum.
