A personal thank you to the New Netherlands Settler's Project!

The New Netherlands Settlers Project has been doing wonders with the profiles under this project.  A special thank you to Project Leader Carrie Quackenbush, and Project Coordinators Steven Mix and Ellen Smith.

In the past decade, much new research is being made available on this historically underappreciated era in America's development. This is in part because a lot of source information on the New Netherlands is in Dutch and was previous unavailable.

Therefore, our English speaking descendants and researchers focused on the American Colonial period and the Puritan Great Migration (see PGM Project for more great work).

I have a lot of ancestors from both areas and I see a lot of the work being done by both projects.  These are wonders to behold on WikiTree.  It is incredible the amount of work and research they both spend on bringing us useful and accurate profiles.  And while Kudos must be given to the PGM Project, I wanted to call attention to the recent work being done by the New Netherlands Settler's Project.

The work they are doing is especially amazing given the nature of the sources available to them.  It is difficult enough to locate and transcribe english documents created a long time ago.  But add in a language that uses Dutch Patronymics  and you find yourself needing very specialized individuals.

The NNS Project of late has pulled together an awesome team and they are spreading awesomeness thought WikiTree.

Thank you all.

It's great to see the New Netherland families getting connected and everything coming together, like a giant jigsaw puzzle. Go team!

We all love the puzzles eeh Carrie, and Steven, waauw he has been around and working for soo long on this, he taught me and many others as well I guess a lot of the things I know now and it actually was Steven who made me decide to just try and start the Dutch Roots Project and let's not forget Michelle and Liz who have been working so hard on this as well..so Steven and everyone who's helping and working on this, or any other part of our Wiki Tree, here's a huge thank you from all of us for all the great work that you've done and still are doing !

Just an FYI, there is a club/orangization in NYC that is specifically for descendants of the early settlers from the Netherlands. They might be a good resource.to reach out to. My children's ancestor's owned a big chunk of what is now NYC, Bergen County, NJ and from Newark on up. Good luck! :)
