Hello, I am Robert Hale, I am running the Heald Y-DNA project and we need more samples.

http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/heald

and https://www.familytreedna.com/

Who can join? Any one who is, or suspects they are a direct male descendant of the Heald family.

Alternative names often include Hail, and Hale as well. We only have a few samples and most are older and not active members, as many people who can join the better. Please email me if you have any questions.

My name is John E Hale.  I suspect I am a direct descendant of John Heald who Emigrated to Concord Mass abt 1639. I am curious about the project. I am fairly certain of my lineage back to Isaac Hale, father of Isaac Ward Hale (brother of Emma Hale who was the first wife of Joseph Smith LDS) father of John Hale, father of John Espy Hale, Father of John Torval Hale, father of Don P Hale, father of me.  I have direct family records and photos back to John Espy Hale. My research at ancestry.com suggests Isaac Hale's (1763-1839) lineage is: Reuben Hale<Samuel Hale<Gershom Hale/Heald<John Heald (abt 1620-1662) who was a freeman in 1641 in Concord MA.

Welcome, I  believe I am from that same line. To join up request a y dna kit from family tree dna

https://www.familytreedna.com/

A 37 marker test is fairly standard though you could test more. Once the results are back or even before please join both the Heald and Hale projects. (I Admin both)  and we can compare results to others. So far we only have a handful of examples for our line unfortunately.
I wanted to add that if you join the Hale and Heald project I regularly receive and give donations to the group to help pay for more advanced testing as required. I personally have a strong interesting in collecting samples form this line and have been tossing money at the problem as we have so few. Thanks!
I would like to join.  Is the FamilyTree DNA Y-37 the best choice to start? Are other DNA companies worth looking into?  Is A higher level worth ordring at the start or could that be added later if needed? if there were donations available that would help.
37 markers is an excellent place to start. You can upgrade later if needed with out having to send in any new samples.  There may be other companies out there but FTDNA is the most popular and where the project is currently hosted.

37 markers will tell us right away which of any of the two current lines you belong to int he Heald group. I also run the general Hale project as well so feel free to join both.
Hi John, Out of curiosity did you ever take the Y DNA test? I think we have 9 samples from this line right now and we are always looking for more.
