Advice before editing this pre-1700 Moseley profile?

I have information to contribute to the profile of Robert Moseley. This is what I can add:

  • I no longer believe that John Moseley, Rector of Little Chart, Kent, is the father of Robert Moseley of East Peckham, Kent.

These are the sources I am using: Church records showing that John Moseley moved to an Oxfordshire parish in 1630 when Robert was 9 years old. This makes it unlikely that he would have returned to Kent and married there. It is therefore unknown where Robert was born and who his parents were.

Should I contact one of the pre-1700 projects or know about any style guidelines before proceeding? Thank you!

Normally when you're changing relationships and detaching people, the done thing is to leave a research note with evidence of why they're not the correct profile, otherwise they're just left hanging with no information on them, and people may reattach them again (and also it's polite to inform the PM of what and why, even if they're not active). So it's good to cover all bases there.

Before making too many changes, it's best to do the research first and find sources so that you're more sure. Make research notes first, detach later. Hope that helps!

Detaching a relationship is a prime example of what WikiTree means by a "major" or "significant" change, and what Gil describes is an important element of "communication before editing."
