Lettice Aungier's parents were mixed up - Douglas was her mother, Francis, her father

Her father Francis Aungier was Sir Francis Aungier. I've started to try to clear this, but FamilySearch guided me to these relationships, and I am unfamiliar with the sources needed to get the profiles corrected.

Note: not sure of the FamilySearch status, but Lettic's parents now both have their correct gender.

Indeed, FamilySearch shows that Richard Aungier and Rosa Stewart had a son:

Sir Francis Aungier (1558-1632)

and a daughter:

Frances Aungier (1572-1632) - Lettice Aungier is the daughter of Douglas Fitzgerald (1566-1632) - female and Sir Francis Aungier male

Sorry for the confusion. Douglas as her mother's forename threw me off.

Unless FamilySearch is off, the profiles for her parents are clearer, now, so there might not be much left to correct in WikiTree...

The Dictionary of Irish Biography https://www.dib.ie/biography/aungier-sir-francis-10275 and The Consolidated Index to the Records of the Genealogical Office, Dublin, Ireland Chapters A-B-C https://www.nli.ie/sites/default/files/2022-10/mcanlis-consolidated-index_vol.-1_a-c.pdf list Sir Francis Aungier with first wife of the name Douglas Fitzgerald, a daughter of the fourteenth earl of Kildare - they married in the 1590's.

So the profile of Lettice Aungier has the correct parents.

Looking through the East Clandon register, there are the following baptisms/burials

Baptisms

1592 02 November Frauncys Augeir daughter of Frauncys Augeir Esquire

1594/5 23 March Garret Augeir son of Francis Augeir Esquire - 'his godmother was ye Lady ?Woolly and his godfather Mr Thomas Garrett ....'

1596 12 September Ambrose Aungeir son of Frauncys Aungeir Esquire

1597 27 November Thomas Aungeir son of Frauncis Aungeir Esquire

Burials

1597 17 December Richard Aungeir Esquire buried in St Thomas Chancel

1600 01 June 'Douglas Aungeir the wyffe of Frauncis Aungeir Esquire was buryed the first day of June'

Also, the Will of 'Sir Francis Aungier, Baron of Longford, Lord Aungier, Master of the Rolls in Ireland' is available on the National Archives website here https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D865942

Douglas has now been removed as mother! I don’t know if she may have been set to ‘male’ by accident?

Douglas isn’t exclusive to boys; Laurence wasn’t either in this time period (and I’m sure there are others I can’t think of at the moment.)
Thanks for that. Douglas is not often a woman's name. Not sure that it's been fully sorted. Sorry for the confusion.

Questions about two of the East Clandon baptisms (and also is there a link for looking these up/constructing a full citation?):

1592 02 November Frauncys Augeir daughter of Frauncys Augeir Esquire - the profile shows that Francis had a daughter name Frances by his second wife, but this date seems inline with the daughter being by Douglas - could there have been two daughters named Frances or is the tradition that Anne Barne was her mother incorrect/unsupported?

1594/5 23 March Garret Augeir son of Francis Augeir Esquire - 'his godmother was ye Lady ?Woolly and his godfather Mr Thomas Garrett ....' - I wouldn't want to assume, but this looks like it would be Gerald, perhaps? No son by the name Garret is listed on the profile.

I created profiles for all the East Clandon baptisms complete with Family Search sources.

Re: your query about 2 x daughters named Frances - the baptism on 2 November 1592 is for a daughter of Francis Augeir - she died in November 1604.  The other 'daughter Frances' is actually a son 'Francis' who was baptised on 3rd August 1607 at East Clandon and the mother would have been Anne Barne.

Re: Garret/Gerald - The original parish register for East Clandon (available on Ancestry) reads 'Garret'.  He is recorded as 'the Right Hon. Gerald, Lord Aungier' on his marriage licence; as 'Garrad Lord Anger' when he is married and as 'the Right honoble Gerard Lord Aungier' when he is buried at East Clandon.
It's all coming together nicely.

I haven't worked on Baronial succession boxes before, and wondered if they were standard? Since it lead to a brief Earldom, Longford seems worthy of having the history highlighted.

The History of Parliament entry linked on Lettice's profile is quite clear that her father was Francis, first Baron Aungier of Longford. If her mother was his sister Frances married to Douglas Fitzgerald, her surname would not have been Aungier.

There is a baptism record at East Clandon, Surrey,  to support Francis as her father: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NRHC-2JW also at https://www.findmypast.co.uk/transcript?id=PRS%2FSURREY%2FBAP%2F0535714 with image. Transcript: Lettyce Aunger daughter of Francys Aungeir esquire was baptized the xxv of May [1591].

I think Douglas Fitzgerald was her uncle, not her father, and definitely not her mother.

Profile has: Daughter of Francis (Augner) Aungier and Douglas (FitzGerald) Fitzgerald
Douglas was her mother, as it turns out.

I am not sure, Porter, whether your information may have come from a family tree on Familysearch. If so, family trees on the web are not reliable sources for any pre-1700 profile, and they frequently get things wrong. One tree on Familysearch actually gives two suggested sets of parents: see https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/K1WV-2X1.
