This post is a pre-'thon check-in!

1. Is this your first 'thon? Have any questions?

2. What do you plan on working on? Have a 'thon goal?

3. What's your favorite 'thon snack?

by Judi Stutz G2G6 Pilot (340k points)
1. I'm your team captain! I think I've participated in all of the thon's except maybe the first one. If you have any questions at all, please post here so others can learn, too, OK? Good.

2. I plan on working on Kansas this 'thon. During the past two 'thons, I worked on the Dakotas. I try and follow the family line creating new profiles until it's not easy to find source records anymore where ever the family lives, which sometimes means outside of Kansas and you should know that during a 'thon, it's OK to create profiles outside of the states mentioned that this team primarily focuses on - ND, SD, NE, KS, OK, and TX.

3. My snack of choice is usually popcorn with vegan butter and pink salt, but when I was out shopping yesterday, I found this huge 1.31 lb box of Jelly Bellys! Each little pouch is 110 calories.
OK, I'm finally ready to start. Work day is done. I have not yet made a plan but will check to see how my own tree's connections are before getting dug in.

1. This is not my first 'thon. I'm getting better at them as I go.

2. I haven't decided yet where I will work. I'll start by looking at my own tree and seeing where connections are needed. It's very likely that I'll end up in Kansas and Nebraska.

3. I don't have a favorite snack. I'm out of almonds. It will probably be popcorn this time. We're having a spell of cool (almost cold) weather, so wintry snacks still sound good.

On y va!

I almost started a day early, but held myself in check. First thing I will do is increase my CC7. I got an email yesterday asking if my half-brother-in-law was still alive and could I have him get in touch with her. I replied yes and said I would pass on a phone number because he doesn't do email. She sent phone number along with a note saying that it would be worth his while. So I called him and insisted he call her.

Turns out it was the widow of his half-brother on his father's side. In fact, both his half-brothers and their only son between them were all deceased and David would be getting an inheritance if he would just get in touch with this lawyer before the half-brothers' half sister on the other side persuaded the lawyer that David was deceased too. Oh, there was also some money coming from the mother of the half-brothers. A genealogist's delight. So I got all the names and dates and just have to add them to my tree to increase my CC7. I also went in and added the extra wives to David's father, so that family will tie together better on Find A Grave. So I go up by 7 without including any people that are alive. And did I mention that David's grandparents are also identified? Now I just need a census or two.

Otherwise, I will be working on Rowleys as I always do (because I usually have sources for them). And at least one Civil War Veteran who isn't connected. And since I am now working USBH in Alabama, I will do what I can there.

Snack: 1) Diet Dr. Pepper, 2) Fudge M&Ms 3) Jerky

Argh...

I had to take my car to the shop yesterday to have work done on the air filter. I purposely took two days off to participate in this connect-a-thon. I'm spending the remaining hours adding as many of my Texas Miller cousins as I can. Good luck, everyone! This is my favorite Wiki Tree project.

Hope everything came out well. Car troubles just pop-up don't they?

I had to buy a new battery and got a rear brake job last week!
