The Latin American Roots Project is now active and accepting badge requests. The purpose of this bi-lingual project is to post to WikiTree the profiles of individuals directly associated with one or more of the 20 Latin American nations, identify those profiles already posted, and provide help and support to WikiTree members who manage profiles that have some relation to Latin America.

You may communicate with our Project Manager, Patrick Barnum (Barnum-281), in either English or Spanish.

Yay Patrick!  Way to jump in!
Hi Patrick,

I am also very interested in the Latin America Roots Project. I've been working on my genealogy (mostly from Mexico City and other parts of Mexico) for a few years. One thing that I've noticed is that while there seems to be a growing interest of Mexican genealogy and Latin American genealogy as a whole, its really hard to find a community that offers help in this regard. I sometimes find websites geared to Mexican genealogy in Texas but none from south of the border. I can trace my genealogy 10 generations back to the Spanish colonist of Mexico city and I can't find any information online. Ancestry.com has been absolutely no help, and the only source where I can find any information has been familysearch.org. This project is very much needed. Thanks!
Hi! Sandra,

I've awarded you the Latin American Roots Project Badge. Welcome!

Patrick
Hi Patrick,

Thank you for including me in the announcement of the launch of the Latin American Roots Project.  I've read the Mission and Goals and they are inspiring!

Although I'm still learning how to navigate the world of WikiTree, I've created a few profiles of ancestors from Mexico and I'd really appreciate having their stories be a part of this project.

If there is still the opportunity to participate, please let me know.

Sincerely,

Janice
It's certainly not too late, Janice. I've awarded you the Latin American Roots project badge. Welcome!

Patrick

Patrick,

I am very interested in this project and would like to join.  It says I should contact you.

I can help with Puerto Rican Genealogy in specific and with other spanish speaking countries in general.  As you know the sources available are very similar.

I am a founding member and past president of the hispanic genealogical society of New York.  Long title, but we concentrate on Puerto Rican, Dominican, Caribbean research and have good contacts with Columbian researchers.  I will tell Luis Gallo of this project as he will most likely want to join.  I will also mention it in our next meeting to see if other members with specific connections want to join as well.

I also have some experience in French research.  Mainland and Haiti.

Thanks very very much,

Jorge
