The Source-A-Thon 2021 is coming up in a few weeks time. The Dutch Roots Project asks all to prepare for this great event by marking unsourced profiles as such. Unsourced profiles are profiles with no valid sources according to the WikiTree rules of sourcing. When the {{Unsourced}} template is present on a profile, it will show up in the list of unsourced profiles we will be working on and in the menu of the profile manager under Find>Unsourced Profiles, which is a great help to the profile manager. Profiles without primary sources, eg those with only other trees mentioned on it, can be marked with the Dutch Roots sticker and needs=Birth and/or needs=More Records, depending on the missing sources.
"Twee vliegen in 1 klap'':
I am currently expanding Dutch incomplete place names lacking the country name (so "below the radar" of our project). Spotting unsourced profiles while processing I will give them the {{Unsourced|Netherlands}} template.
Made a start with the Noord-Holland place names, finding them with a WikiTree+ search:
place name Open not Netherlands
@Joke:
Hi, Michel,
I sent Astrid a message to tell her the thon was coming up and because I remembered her saying that last year you guys sorted out 1000s of profiles. She has told me she is busy at work a little more, but she added that she has a vacation soon.
I really hope that we can get more members this thon and be the best do our best to improve WikiTree. A fair warning that I'll probably stick to post 1800 for this thon and a little to South Africa, but I'll see what I can do. Good luck with your endeavours.
Thanks, W,
Before the teachers at school come after me I better finish my tests and assignments. Otherwise, I better get a head start running away.
Good thing I have September holidays soon.
Lest you worry about focusing "only" on post 1800 profiles, there are 484,557 open profiles and they are distributed as follows (that is, 60% are 1800 or later):
Beautiful stats!
Everyone can choose whatever era they prefer. I am planning to write a few lines on a good strategy to max your scores though .
Now Ales has created a new set of reports to easily see counts like I made above - but with detail at the province and major country level too! There are also reports specifically for birth, marriage, and death locations.
Yes W, someone asked for it and Aleš responded immediately!
I plead not guilty, I was not the one who asked...
I have been working on this on and off for the last few weeks using the Bio Check app, trying to add unsourced to the profiles created the longest ago. I am using this search - https://wikitree.sdms.si/default.htm?report=srch1&Query=netherlands+open&MaxProfiles=500000, going to the BioCheck app, and then using the setting Max search profiles 500000 (which gets them all - but now seems to be changing to 50000), Max to check and max to report both set at 500, selecting "profiles for review" because that keeps things in order by creation date. Then I choose a start number (incrementing by 500 each time). After the results come up, I do a search in the page (ctrl+f) for a ? to find any that may need unsourced added. I haven't gotten that far -- I am currently starting check at 1500 2000 2500 3000 3500 4000 4500 5000 5500 6000 6500 7000 7500, but if anyone else wants to approach this in the same way, please note your starting number below
Also -- if anyone with pre-1500 editing ability wants to add unsourced to profiles, please see https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1282516/pre-1500-dutch-profiles-need-unsourced-tag-added Last year (before the BioCheck app existed) we tried to find profiles by using the lastedited search. We tired to get all of 2012 marked, but we missed some + more are now found because marriage locations come up in searches + improving locations keeps adding more to our lists of profiles. But if anyone wants to work on these, here is a search: https://wikitree.sdms.si/default.htm?report=srch1&Query=netherlands+lastedit2012+open&MaxProfiles=1000&SortOrder=BiDa&PageSize=1000
Setting "Unsourced" on all profiles in W's list unconditionally is not hte idea. As W said in her original question: "add unsourced to them (assuming they are unsourced)".
Also be careful when profiles are managed by other projects, like European Royals and Aristocrats, Magna Carta and the likes.
Joop, still fast as lightning!
