Can we trust Luiprand of Cremona as a source?

I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out Luiprand. He's definitely controversial. So when can we trust him as a Medieval source, and when can we not?

Any takers?

Hi Bree,

I really don't know what the medieval genealogical scholars of today think of Liutprand.  I've not seen him mentioned in the soc.genealogy.medieval postings over the past decade, although I certainly haven't seen all of the posts.  Is there a specific profile (or family) you're working on that you're considering him as a source?

It's more of a general question due to his writing influence during the 10th century, specifically in terms of the Ottonian empire -- Italy and Byzantium. I'm very tempted to label him as a propagandist/PR specialist more than a source. But before I do that... I wanted to see what common consensus believes.
