Elkanah Young'

Elkanah Young, a participant in the "Boston Tea Parry" on December 16, 1773, was born at Eastham in 1745. He settled at Mount Desert Island in 1770 and later moved to Lamoine, where he died in 1832. He was a descendanr of Stephen Hopkins and Thomas Rogers. There are many SAR applications from descendants of Elkanah Young.

He married first Rebecca Higgins at Eastham in 1769. Rebecca died at Salisbury Cove about 1774. She is probably the Rebecca Higgins b. 1745 to Paul Higgins. They had:

• i. Mary Young, born May 16, 1772. She married William Mason of Bar Harbor. She had by him 2 children. James Mason b. 1790 who married a Mary Everett, but could not be further traces. Also a daughter Rebecca who died in infancy. William Mason's other children were from his second wife.
