Biography

Robert Williams was born April 5, 1814 to Daniel Williams and Mary Maxwell.

He married his second cousin, Margaret Williams. (Note that her brother was also named Robert Williams, and he married THIS Robert's sister Jennett, so confusion is easy when reviewing records.)

Robert died on May 5, 1903 in Sampson Co., North Carolina. He is buried beside Margaret in the Joe Moore Hill Cemetery in Autryville, NC.

Slaves

At the 1860 census, Robert enslaved 9 people in one slave house[1]; 4 of them (all described as "mulatto") were ticked as "fugitive from the state," but as all mulatto slaves on this census sheet are marked as fugitive, it is most likely that this particular census-taker was using the column as a tick-box to tally.
