My roots run deep in central Virginia, with many of my ancestors calling Hanover County home for generations.

I have been working on my ancestry since 2001. My goal is to be as correct as possible, however because much of Hanover County's recorded history was lost in the evacuation fire in Richmond, this can be a challenge.

One of my current focus issues is the Tyler line and how DNA testing has revealed some flaws in published lineages which have become widely repeated.

I am a match for John R. Tyler [Tyler 2877], 66/67 with a genetic distance of 1.

The very close y-DNA match when combined with my GGGgrandfather residing in the same general vicinity of St. Paul's Parish, Hanover County, Virginia as John Tyler [Tyler-420] indicates a high probability of relatedness to Henry Tyler, the immigrant to Middle Plantation/Williamsburg. I will, most likely, never be able to reliably connect to John Tyler [Tyler-420] due to the loss of records.

Thanks for your message, Michael! I originally had Mary Tyler linked as a daughter of William "Henry" Tyler since he matched up with who findagrave.com lists as Mary's father (http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=87447660), but findagrave doesn't have sources and I couldn't find corroborating evidence so I removed him. Based on what you've written on your page it looks like there was some difficulty regarding sourcing William Tylers, so perhaps the findagrave connection was a consequence of that. Do you mind connecting Mary to the William you believe to be her father? The only sources I have on her is the 1850 census where she is in her husband's household and her gravestone picture from findagrave. Thanks again, Ryan.
