Biography

1776 Project
Private Jeremiah Tracy served with Lincoln County Militia, Massachusetts Militia during the American Revolution.
Daughters of the American Revolution
Jeremiah Tracy is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A115918.

Jeremiah was born in 1744 at Falmouth, Maine.[1] He was the son of Jonathan Tracy and Abigail Riggs.

He married Sarah Leighton.

He fought on the American side during the American Revolution, participating most notably in the disastrous attack on a British fort on the Penobscot in 1781 which resulted in 500 American soldiers and 43 American ships being lost. This remains to this day the worst American naval defeat in history. [2]

Souring on the American cause, he took his family and travelled East to the Saint John River. He settled in Sunbury County where he became the founder of the current village of Tracy. It was noted in General Studholm's report prior to the arrival of the Loyalists that he had a log house and about 2-3 acres of cleared land in 1783.[3][4]

He passed away in 1812 and was interred at the Pioneer Cemetery in Tracy.[5]
