Biography
"David was born about 1725, and lived and died in Hebron. He married Sarah Loomis in 1751, and after her death, and in 1761, he married Elizabeth Fowler. He had sons, David [Jr], date of birth unknown, and Nathaniel, born in 1760, children of his first wife, and by the second wife Jonathan, born 1762, Jesse, born in 1766, Elizabeth, born in 1772 and John, born in 1785. The Davids, father and son, lived and died in Hebron, and their remains rest side by side of their ancestor, Jonathan, in the graveyard at Andover, Ct., which was formerly a part of Hebron." "David Townsend, senior, was a man of great physical energy. He was a member of the celebrated colonial expedition which took the renowned French fortress of Louisburg from France, unaided by Great Britain. He was so small in stature as to weigh scarcely more than one hundred pounds, a peculiarity occasionally appearing in our branch of the Townsend family for nearly two hundred years."[1]
