Fred Tonkin was born in 1867 in Plymouth, Devon, England. He was the son of John Tonkin and Maria Lavers. [1]
In 1871 Fred aged 3 is living in Plymouth, Devon, with his father John, mother Maria and siblings Mary, Harriett, John and Albert. [2]
The family emigrated to South Australia on the Earl Dalhousie, arriving at Port Adelaide on 12 Jan 1874 [3]
He passed away age 30 on 26 December 1897 in Hindmarsh West, South Australia [4] and was buried in Hindmarsh Cemetery. [5]
- TONKIN. On the 26th December, at his father's residence, Albermarle-street, Hindmarsh West, Fred, the youngest beloved son of John Tonkin, after a lingering illness, aged 30 years. "Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord." [6]
