He married Selina Elizabeth Sparling 8 Jun 1907 at the Baptist Church in Glen Osmond. [2]
Frederick enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 9 Jun 1915. He embarked in December 1915 on HMAT Seang Bee, and in Feb 1916 Frederick joined the 50th Btn AIF. Wounded in France in Aug 1916, he was returned to Australia in Feb 1917. [3]
Frederick Joseph Tonkin died age 67 [4] and was buried in Birdwood Cemetery. [5][6]
