Biography

Harold Tonkin was born in the Colony of South Australia (1836-1900)

TONKIN On the 6th April, at the residence of his sister (Mrs J Ford) 29 Lanor Avenue, Goodwood Park, Harold A., loved husband of the late Violet L Tonkin, and late of Thompson & Harvey Ltd., loving father of Allan and Gordon. Resting. ^[1]

Research Notes

Only one burial record is found in a search for Harold Absalom Tonkin at West Terrace Cemetery and that is at Road 1 South, Path 5, Aspect E, Site Number 56 on 7 April 1941. According to those records he was buried with his first wife Sarah who died in 1916 (only Sarah is recorded on the headstone). His second wife Violet who died in 1929 was also buried in WTC at Eyre South, Path 5S, Aspect E, Site Number 11 which is next to Harold's mother. The headstone at this site on one side records Sarah Prisk Tonkin who died in 1925 and Absalom who passed away at Callington (but is not buried here). Another side records Violet who died in 1929 (who is buried here) and Harold who died in 1941, although according to cemetery records is buried at Road 1 South, Path 5, Aspect E, Site Number 56. ^[2] Karyn Homburg 11:32, 22 Mar 2024 (UTC)
