Obituary

Christian Tiller was born at Trondheim, Norway, April 12. 1851. Emigrating to America at the age of 13, he settled at Dassel Minn. where on July 6, 1875 he was united in marriage with Anna Johnson, who survives him.
Eight children were born of the union, all of whom are left to mourn his sudden death. They are: William Tiller of Whitefish, Mont., Mrs. Delos Honnewell of Donneybrook, Harry Tiller of Great Falls. Mont., Mrs. Warren of Minot, Mrs Snippen of Joplin, Mont., and George, Ida and Oscar of Bulington.
Mr Tiller is surived by two bothers at Dassel, Minn., and one brother in Minneapolis.
Deceased was for over 30 years, employed by the Soo and Great Northern railroads here in the west. He was employed by the Soo in constructing the line through this section of the state. Of late years he has held a responsible position with the Great Northern railroad, being in charge of what is known as the extra gang. Chris' gang was always in demand if a particularly difficult piece of work was required.
The officials of the Great Northern sent a beautiful wreath as a testimonial of the esteem in which he was held and as a token of their sympathy for his bereaved family
The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, March 4th, and were attended by the largest assemblage of people that ever gathered in the village. Rev. Eames officiated. The remains were laid to rest in Riverside cemetery, Burlington."
newspaper article:
G.N. Track foreman found in yards early saturday morning in dying condition-coroner's inquest held.
Chris Tiller, track foreman of the Great Northern Railway Co., was found in dying condition beside a car in the freight yards at an early hour Saturday morning by Frank Francis, time keeper. The man was unconscious and remained in that condition. He was carried into the oil house where he died. Considerable mystery surrounds Tiller's death, however the coroner's jury came to the conclusion that he met his death by a fall from his boarding car. Tiller's skull was fractured, one eye was blackened and one hand lacerated.
Tiller had spent the evening with a number of men, several of whom are said to have been intoxicated. It is also said that he had $130 on his person that night. This leads his friends to suspect foul play."
