Edward Thomas was born in 1817 in Hagley, Worcestershire, England to William Thomas and Elizabeth "Betty" (Hyde) Thomas.
Edward Thomas, son of William & Elizabeth, was baptised on 9 Nov 1817 in Hagley.[1]
Edward was married sometime before 1851.
In 1851 Edward Thomas (age 33, Genminn Inland Women [Government Inland Revenue?]) lived in Stepney, Middlesex - he was listed as married, but no other household members were recorded.[2]
Edward was a widower by 1860.
Edward Thomas (of Stafford in the County of Stafford, of the age of 21 or upwards, Supervisor of Excise, a widower) and Hannah Griffiths Doughty (of Liverpool in the County of Lancashire, of the age of 21 or upwards, a spinster) applied for a marriage license on 16 Apr 1860, to be married at the Church of St Paul in Liverpool - the license was granted on 17 Apr 1860.[3]
Edward and Hannah had seven daughters:
In 1861 Edward Thomas (age 43, Supervisor Inland Revenue) lived at Sackville Street in Barnsley, Yorkshire with his wife Hannah (21), daughter Elizabeth (0), mother-in-law Hannah Daughty (59, Wife of Ship Owner), brother-in-law Benjamin Daughty (15, Scholar), niece Louisa Griffiths (15, Scholar), and servant Emily Abrahams (14, Servant).[4]

In 1891 Edward Thomas (age 73, Retired Supervisor Inland Revenue) lived in Upper Arley with his wife Hannah (50) and three daughters: Caroline (21), Henrietta (18), and Amy (15).[7]
Edward Thomas passed away on 24 Jan 1892, aged 74 years. His death was registered in Kidderminster, Worcestershire in the first quarter of the year.[8]
For some reason, Edward's wife Hannah is listed as a spinster with her maiden name on his probate record - perhaps there was some irregularity with their marriage, or perhaps it was simply a mistake:
