Biography
François Paul Albert Jacques Ghislain Sutherland was born in September 2000 in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, Belgium, and the son of MDL. Jean-Marc Michel Ghislain Sutherland, a teacher having completed his military service at Siegen in Germany and having obtained the rank of sub-officer as Maréchal des logis in the Belgian cavalry, and Mrs. Sylvie Anne Charlotte Dezutter.
On his mother's side, he descends from the Glorieux de Dottignies family, a line of landowners who were burgomasters of Dottignies (the family included burgomasters, aldermen, politicians and farmers in western Hainaut and descended from Sire Jehan Glorieux, Ecuyer, Officer at the Court of Mary of Burgundy, Princess of the House of Valois-Burgundy and titular Duchess of Burgundy, as well as the Dezutter de Saint Maur family (which included Farmers, Ceiling Fitters from Flanders) who allied themselves with the Chantry de Saint Maur family, descendants of Marc Chantry, Baillif of Wez-Velvain (b. c.1550 ) around 1860.
On his father's side he is descended from the Sutherland family of Thurston (a branch of the Clan Sutherland who held agricultural land in the hamlet of Thurston near the village of Innerwick and the town of Haddington under the Hunter family of Thurston Manor, lords of the region) and the Hainaut family (family of soldiers and merchants who made their fortune in the coal and fruit trade).
He was an active member of the Scouts of Belgium for 12 years and practiced choral singing in a choir for 10 years and he is a council member of the Clan Sutherland Society in Scotland.
His Scottish ancestry comes from Bri. Eugene François Sutherland. His paternal ancestors were the owners of Thurston Home Farm. His great-great-great grandfather Francis Sutherland (1847-1923) was an estate manager and worked with noble families such as the Muntz family of Umberslade Hall (distant cousins), the 5th Earl of Rosebury (distant relative), or the Herbert family of Llanarth (distant cousins), managing in general, the workers, i.e. the management of the forests, woodlands or parklands, and his workers (his favourite area).
