Hope Summers was an American character actress best known for her role as Clara Edwards on CBS's The Andy Griffith Show and its spinoff, Mayberry RFD.
Hope married Claude James Witherell. In 1940, the couple lived in Evanston, Illinois. James was a statistician in business research, and Hope was a radio actress. They had two young children, Deirdre and and James.[1]
